Bac Lieu Prince’s House

Tran Trinh Huy was born in a very rich and luxurious family, his father – Tran Trinh Trach owned so many rice hectares and a lot of land. Nam Hai Buddha (Quan Am Phat Dai)

Xiem Can Pagoda

Visiting the pagoda, one will understand why it is listed among the biggest and most splendid Khmer pagodas in southern Vietnam. The pagoda was built in 1887 near a coastal alluvial ground that explains why the pagoda is called Xiem Can (literally bordering water) according to the language of the Jiezhou people who are mainly living in Bac Lieu Province).

The pagoda is also harmonious with the architecture of Sala – the place where monks and the Khmer people gather to prepare for important ceremonies. There are many towers where ashes of dead monks are preserved. It is a typical feature that helps distinguish the Khmer pagodas with others seen from outside.

Before reaching the age of 18, Khmer children will be brought to the pagoda to learn about Khmer script, Buddhism and the cultural characteristics of the Khmer community during a three year period.

Vinh Hung Ancient Tower

Vinh Hung Tower was originated from Angkor period of Khmer people and until now is it still preserved. Vinh Hung tower is located in Vinh Hung A commune, Vinh Loi district, Bac Lieu province. The tower is the only ancient architecture vestige in the Mekong River Delta, originated from Angkor period of Khmer people, which is still preserved till nowadays. The tower was discovered in 1911 and at that time, it was listed as one of the historical sites in southern Vietnam. The tower is also known as Luc Hien or Bhah Dhat tower.

The 8,9 meter-high Vinh Hung tower is built on a hill with simple structure. In the tower, there are a Buddha’s hand made of copper; a lower body part of the Goddess; a statue of the Goddess made from green stone, statue of Goddess Brahma; a Buddha’s head made from copper and many worshipping items.
